An Impactful Internal Signage Scheme for Stockport’s Biggest Restaurant

An Impactful Internal Signage Scheme for Stockport’s Biggest Restaurant

For

Royal Nawaab

What is it

Internal signage to help customers navigate one of the largest restaurants in the North West.

Project Scope

Nestled within the iconic Stockport Pyramid and hailed by its architect to be “possibly the biggest Pakistani restaurant in the world”, the Royal Nawaab opened its first restaurant in the north of England in April 2025.

We were brought on board to help create a clear and coherent internal signage system within this gargantuan space, so that its many restaurant-goers and wedding guests can find their way.

The Specifics

A key element to our project was devising and creating the menu boards for above the buffet servery counter. While the jury on official measurements is out, Jay Rayner reported in the Financial Times that it is “so long you could run time trials down it”.

We created 8 hanging signs to be positioned above each food category, from main curries to desserts and everything in between.

The all-important “Please pay here” sign needed to be eye catching and visible from throughout the banquet hall. In line with the character of the space, we went big – creating a 2200-lumens sign with face-lit letters that really stands out. But we also provided a dimmer switch to give the client ultimate control over how bright they want it at different times of the day.

This venue is so vast that it also hosts wedding parties, so our input also involved on brand entrance signs for the three banqueting suites and wayfinding to point guests to the toilets.

Next up, we’re turning our attention outside: a new 6m high gateway totem sign which will help visitors navigate to the restaurant from the Pyramid Roundabout. We’re busy working on the concept design now, so watch this space…

The SPI team understood our aspirations and helped us to create the right ambience for our special restaurant, while ticking all the practical boxes in terms of navigating this vast space. We’re already working with them on the next phase of works.
